In order to appreciate the Good News, we must first understand the bad news. We all know it. The problem is admitting it.
We have all made mistakes and we have all violated God's laws. Think of the Ten Commandments. Have you kept them all perfectly? Of course not, none of us can. We all fall short. We let others down. We hurt those we love. The question is whether or not we can admit it. If you can't admit that you do not meet God's criteria of perfection, then read no further.
If you can admit your short-comings before God and others, I have Good News! When Jesus spoke to the religious leaders of his day, he asked them how they would escape the coming judgment. Our own works of righteousness cannot make up for our sin in the sight of God. Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb of God, died in our place. He paid the debt we owe, and freed us to live for God, over our own selfish desires.
If you believe this, admit your sin, turn away from your ways, and turn toward God's ways. Invite the Spirit of God to live in you, bringing a new life. Pray to God asking for His forgiveness, then be baptized, and find a good church home to be a part of.
